DAY 1

QUITO : Arrive at MARISCAL SUCRE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

  • Transport from Mariscal Sucre International Airport to Quito: 45 min.

You will have this day free to begin your trip tasting the delicious Ecuadorian cuisine at some rooftops and restaurants suggested by us.

DAY 2

QUITO – MITAD DEL MUNDO - PULULAHUA – MINDO

Suggested Visits

  • Pululahua Crater: With 4 km diameter and 300 meters deep, it’s the second largest active volcano crater in the world. Pululahua is one of the rare volcanoes in the world where humans reside. Currently, roughly 100 families live around the volcano as farmers.

What to do in Mindo?

  • Ruta de la cascada (the route of waterfalls).
  • Mariposario (Butterfly House).
  • El Quetzal de Mindo Chocolate Tour
  • Night hike to observe some fascinating nocturnal animals. 

Day 3 

MINDO – PUERTO QUITO – PEDERNALES – JAMA – CANOA

  • Cascada Azul (Blue Waterfall): 
  • Pedernales: The “shrimp capital” of Ecuador and closest beach to Quito.

Day 4 

CANOA : free day

Suggested Visits

  • Canoa: Take advantage of the 17 km of beach offered by this coastal town or try the local cuisine. 
  • Isla Corazón Natural Reserve: this island nature reserve lies in a mangrove forest and holds a colony of frigatebirds.

Day 5

CANOA – BAHIA DE CARAQUEZ – MONTECRISTI – PUERTO LÓPEZ

Suggested Visits

  • Isla de la Plata: Located at the coast of Puerto López, this island holds a tropical dry forest, similar to the hábitat of Galapagos, making this place to be the hábitat of some Galapagos species like the blue-footed booby (Isla de la Plata is also known as Little Galapagos). Between July and October, the island is visited by humpback whales.

PUERTO LÓPEZ – GUAYAQUIL

Suggested Visits

  • Agua Blanca Archeological Museum: Archeological site that offers to the visitant a view of pots, statuettes and other pieces of ceramic made by Machalilla Culture. You can also walk around the typical tropical dry forest of Machalilla National Park, prevailed by “Ceibo” and “Palo Santo” trees, local species from the tropical coast of South America.

  • Playa de los Frailes: One of the most beautiful beaches of Ecuador. Thanks for its location, Los Frailes could conserve its natural habitat unaltered.

Day 7 

GUAYAQUIL – BABAHOYO – GUARANDA – RESERVA DE PRODUCCION FAUNISTICA CHIMBORAZO – RIOBAMBA

Suggested Visits

  • During the trip, enjoy the changing environment while you ascend to Guaranda, from the warm plains and tropical forests of the coast to the pikes and paramo of the Andes.

  • Chimborazo Reserve (20,702 ft / 6,310 m): Protected area where you can find the highest volcano of the country and the closest point to the sun. You can access the volcano shelter by car.

  • Walk from Whymper Shelter: Very high altitude at 16,404 ft (5000 m). Bring warm clothes as the average temperature is between 0° and 10° C. When you reach or surpass the 5 000m of altitude, you can get a sign of that achievement in your passport, so don’t forget to bring it!

Day 8

CHIMBORAZO – BAÑOS

Suggested Visits

  • Baños de Agua Santa Church: The city is located at the foot of Tungurahua Volcano (5100m). We recommend you visit Baños Church, inside it you can appreciate paintings of previous eruptions of the volcano.
  • Melcocha: see how the artisans produce their “melcocha” (sugar cane bonbon).
  • "Tagua" workshops: also known as the marfil nut, tagua is the seed of the palm tree Phytelephas macrocarpa that grows in the tropical forests of the Pacific region in Panama, Colombia and Ecuador.

BAÑOS

Suggested Visits

  • Waterfall Route in "chivas" (open air buses): Follow old route between Baños and Puyo and see spectacular waterfalls. You can also rent bicycles to complete the same “route of the waterfalls”.
  • Extreme Sports: For its location, Baños offers to the visitors a sort of extreme sports options: practice rafting in the Pastaza River, A 2km-path Canopy to arrive to “Manto de la Novia” waterfall or Canyoning in Blanco River.
  • Tree House: Head towards Puyo, at km 4 a to the right. Panoramic view of Tungurahua Volcano and its surroundings.

Day 10

BAÑOS > TENA

  • Las Orquídeas Botanic Garden: Situated 4 km from Puyo, this is a remarkable botanic garden. Enjoy a guided tour with Omar, the person who planted every plant in the garden around 40 years ago.
  • Pailón del Diablo: Popular destination near to Baños and one of the most famous places in Ecuador. This site is called so due to the natural stone face located behind the waterfall.
  • Ethnic-Archeological Museum: Opened in 1996, the museum offers an approach to the cultural and social diversity of the province, one of the most diverse of the country.
  • Casa de la Balsa (“Balsa” House): Established 30 years ago, this shop exhibits handcrafted products and goods elaborated using “balsa”,” chonta”, clay and seeds from plants from over the Coast, Andes and Amazon regions. These crafts created bu expert artisans, are part of the cultural identity of some indigenous and etnic groups that inhabit Ecuador.

Day 11

TENA: Discovering the Amazon Rainforest.

This day will include activities provided by the selected lodge.
You can see the elaboration of local chocolate, take walk through the Amazon rainforest and make some photos of crawling monkeys or toucans, visit a Kichwa community or explore the Jumandi Caves*.

Day 12


TENA – BAEZA – PAPALLACTA – QUITO

After your departure to Quito, you can enjoy a short visit to the butterfly farm or a short walk in the Amazon jungle*.

Suggested Visits

  • Papallacta Hot Springs: One of the most famous and popular destinations that offers Ecuador, thanks for the comfort of its facilities as well for the health benefits that provides the hot springs of volcanic origin. The place has 5 hot springs pools that use water streams coming for the close Chacana caldera and just 1 cold water pool. The true beauty of Papallacta Hot Springs lies on the leisure time you can have there while appreciatting the surroinding landscape: the stonetalon Andes mountains combining with the Amazon rainforest.

Day 13


QUITO - MARISCAL SUCRE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

This day includes a tour around Quito Old Town, Panecillo Hill and “Mitad del Mundo” Museum.
(Optional, depending on your flight schedule).

  • Old Town: Museums, theaters, churches, buildings dating back to the 16th century and street performers all reside in the Old Town of Quito. In 1978, Quito was the first city in the world declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Mitad del Mundo Museum: Go inside this museum and witness the unique phenomenons and experiments that only happen in this point of the planet.

  • Intiñan Museum: Ethnographic museum where you can meet and know more about the lifestyle and philosophy of some ethnic groups that live or have lived in Ecuador.
