Description
The Quilotoa considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world!
The Quilotoa is a volcanic boiler (caldera) filled with water, as well as the most western volcano of the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3-km-wide boiler was formed by the collapse of this volcano followed by an eruption about 800 years ago. In the 250 m deep boiler a lagoon has been formed, located at 3800 meters above sea level.
You can find a beautiful lagoon of emerald green color, due to the minerals of the water, when it receives the impact of sunlight. You can do various sports such as hiking around the volcano, horse ride, boat and kayak rentals, in addition you can see mammals such as deer, wolves of paramo, rabbits, foxes and others. Stunning landscapes for photography lovers!
Located 4 hours by vehicle from the city of Quito. On the way you can see multiple landscapes with their microclimates. The Andean communities have long been abandoned; however, they have managed to survive and are appreciated in the desire to overcome themselves. This will be seen in community tourism in Quilotoa, where the income from visitors is invested in the communities.
